15th (Scottish) Infantry Division

The 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division was a second-line Territorial Army infantry formation, raised in 1939 as the duplicate of the 52nd (Lowland) Division. It had not seen action before joining the 2nd Army in Normandy in June 1944.

The Division took part in the battle on the River Odon (Operation EPSOM), 26th-29th June, where it led the attempt to capture the bridges West of Caen. Initially unsuccessful, it crossed the River on 27th June suffering heavy casualties – 2,331 KIA and WIA in five days. It later took part in the fighting south of Caumont, 31st July–6th August.
